Vital Signs: Pharmacy-Based Naloxone Dispensing — United States, 2012–2018

Overview

The CDC has established recommended guidelines for prescribing naloxone when prescribing opioids to individuals that present increased risk for overdose.  Improving access to naloxone has become a public health priority in light of the number of drug overdoses that involve prescription opioids.  In this report, the CDC examines the trends of naloxone dispending from retail pharmacies across the country.  The results vary dramatically across our nation.
