September 25, 2014

Burlington Northern Santa Fe is paying for 142 Washington firefighters to receive training in Pueblo, Colorado, in oil train accidents.

The Seattle Times reports the classes began in July and will continue through the end of the year.

Spokesman Gus Melonas says the railway also is providing hazmat training for 800 Washington first responders through the end of the year.

As many as 19 crude oil trains from North Dakota move through Washington in a single week.
