Colorado lawmakers plan to address the state’s flood recovery efforts and discuss whether there’s a need for legislation in the disaster’s aftermath.
Legislative leaders announced Friday they would convene a bipartisan panel of 12 lawmakers that will begin meeting soon. The lawmakers will tour areas damaged by last month’s floods and get input by residents who were affected.
An initial meeting date has not been set.
The legislative panel also plans to get feedback from disaster experts and responders on recovery efforts and review state laws to determine whether new statutes are needed.
Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper had raised the possibility of a special session to address looting and potential fraud. He later said a special session was not necessary.
The regular session begins in January.
