A $45 million claim has been filed by a family that saw two loved ones killed and two others severely injured in a Seattle traffic crash that prosecutors say was caused by a drunken driver.
KOMO-TV reports that the family of Dennis and Judy Schulte filed the claim against the city of Seattle, saying the city failed to supervise driver Mark Mullan.
Prosecutors say Mullan was drunk on March 25 when his pickup hit four members of the family as they walked across a street.
Dennis and Judy Schulte were killed and their daughter-in-law and her newborn baby were severely injured.
Court records show Mullan was on probation for a DUI conviction and should not have been driving without an interlock device on his truck. The family says the city failed to enforce the terms of his probation. No response was immediately available from city officials late Tuesday.
Mullan has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and reckless driving.
