Arson is suspected in eight fires reported over a six-block area of San Bernardino, Calif., including one blaze that destroyed a recreational vehicle owned by a Fire Department battalion chief.
Fire Capt. Jason Serrano tells The Sun newspaper that the fires were sparked within a one-hour period early Monday.
The newspaper says investigators detained a woman for questioning.
Serrano says most of the fires were started in dry grassy areas that could have threatened several area homes. Crews knocked down flames before they could get out of control.
The RV that burned was parked in front of the battalion chief’s house.
Nobody was injured.
