A former high school cheerleader is suing the Hillsboro School District and her coaches, claiming they failed to protect her from head injuries.
Her lawyer tells The Oregonian that Mikaila Manjarrez hit her head on her fellow cheerleaders’ knees multiple times after she was thrown in the air and not properly caught, and she was hit by a stray ball.
The suit says the coaches failed to properly instruct the Century High School cheerleaders in their stunts and failed to refer her for evaluation. It says the district didn’t implement Oregon’s concussion law or follow its own policies. It seeks $850,000.
A spokeswoman says the lawsuit has likely been turned over to the district’s liability insurance company.
