Officials in a Northern California city have agreed to pay a man $15,000 not to file any more lawsuits against the city or businesses over the federal Americans with Disability Act.
In what they’re describing as the first of its kind, Yuba City officials say they’ve agreed to pay George Louie the money so he won’t file suits over allegations of failing to comply with the act.
The agreement is most likely a relief for business owners in the Sutter County community about 40 miles north of Sacramento. Some have described the suits as “frivolous.”
The Sacramento Bee reports that Louie was placed by a Contra Costa County Superior Court judge on a state list of “vexatious litigants,” in 2011 and is barred from filing lawsuits in California courts, though Louie is still free to file suits in federal court.
