Oregon Hotel Fire Probe Advancing

The first phase of an investigation into a five-alarm hotel fire is complete, but authorities haven’t determined the cause of the blaze.

A raging fire on Sept. 2 destroyed the vacant Thunderbird on the River hotel in north Portland, Ore.

Officials said in a statement Saturday that investigators from the fire department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are processing information from the probe, but still haven’t determined how the fire started.

Authorities say they are investigating all possible causes.

Damage has been estimated at $5 million. The hotel had been vacant since 2005, but was used as a storage area for mattresses and other furniture.
