Authorities say an off-duty Beverly Hills, Calif., police officer was not visibly injured when his car plowed into a home, sheared off a utility pole and landed upside down on the retaining wall of another home in Simi Valley.
Tuesday night’s crash was reported around 10:30 p.m. on Royal Avenue after the driver failed to negotiate a curve. Bystanders pulled 42-year-old Jeffrey Sweet of Simi Valley from the car.
Simi Valley police tell the Ventura County Star that two homes were evacuated because a natural gas line was severed.
The Beverly Hills Police Department sent officers to assist in the investigation.
Sweet was taken to a hospital after complaining of pain before being booked for investigation of driving under the influence.
