Report: 2 Colorado Fires Burned Property Worth $55M

Tax records show that two wildfires that burned houses in Larimer County this year damaged homes worth an estimated $55 million.

There were 259 homes lost in the High Park Fire near Fort Collins and one in the flash flooding that followed. About 100 seasonal cabins and outbuildings also were damaged. The Woodland Heights fire in Estes Park burned about two dozen homes and auxiliary structures.

The Denver Post analyzed county tax records of the properties and determined that based on market values as of June 30, 2010, the value of the homes destroyed by the two fires is about $55 million.

The newspaper calculated that the value of the nearly 350 homes lost in the Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado Springs this summer was about $110 million.
