Metal thieves have hauled away aluminum bleachers and irrigation pipes at a popular Sa Francisco, Calif., park.
The San Francisco Chronicle says the brazen thieves also tried to steal the metal frames of soccer goals at Crocker-Amazon Park.
The city Recreation and Parks Department estimates hundreds of thousands of dollars in metal equipment has been stolen during an epidemic of metal thefts.
The proposed city budget includes money for additional park rangers. There are now no more than two are on duty at a time to patrol 220 parks covering more than 4,000 acres.
