Felled Wires From Electric Bus Injure 3 in California

June 6, 2012

Three people who were in the path of several power lines that were felled by an electric trolley bus in San Francisco, Calif., have been taken to the hospital.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that none of their injuries are thought to be serious, but the accident at Market and Fifth streets forced the closure of a five-block stretch of a main downtown thoroughfare during the evening commute.

It was not immediately clear what caused the bus to snap the overhead cables that power the city’s trolley bus fleet, according to the Chronicle.

Witness Hilton Holcomb told the newspaper he saw an injured man under a wire that had sparks and flames coming out of it. Holcomb says the man was shaking and reported that his hands felt like they were on fire.
