A fire at a northern San Diego, Calif., apartment building has displaced 17 people and caused an estimated $500,000 in damage.
The North County Times says cooking oil left untended on a hot stove sparked the fire in the Vista building Sunday morning.
Firefighters from Vista, Carlsbad, San Marcos and Oceanside responded and doused the blaze within 15 minutes.
Two of the building’s eight units were damaged, displacing nine adults and eight children.
A small dog was found unharmed in one of the damaged apartments.
