A 31-year-old Boise, Idaho, man has pleaded guilty to giving false information to a federal mine safety and health inspector last year.
Federal prosecutors say Jason Jones entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court Wednesday to one count of submitting a false document.
Investigators say that last June, Jones, the safety officer and trainer for Western Construction Inc., provided documents showing that six miners working at a sand and gravel mine had received annual training.
Prosecutors claim Jones forged each of the miners’ names then provided the documents to the federal inspector knowing none of the miners had received the training.
He faces up to five years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in May.
