February 16, 2012

The Anchorage Assembly will again look at the issue of allowing New Year’s Eve fireworks in Alaska’s biggest city.

The Anchorage Daily News says the latest proposal would allow fireworks in some neighborhood parks.

The proposal would allow also allow people to shoot off fireworks 50 feet or farther from a residence.

The proposal was before the Anchorage Assembly on Tuesday. Chairwoman Debbie Ossiander said it would be sent to the Parks and Recreation Commission for comment, and that the Assembly will take it up at a later date.

Parks Department executives have already said they don’t support it.
