Feds Reimburse Colorado for Firefighting Costs

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is reimbursing the Colorado State Forest Service for 75 percent of the cost of the Fourmile Canyon and Reservoir fires.

Sen. Mark Udall says the money is needed to help communities recover. The agency is contributing more than $3 million.

The 2010 Fourmile Canyon Fire in the heavily wooded canyons west of Boulder destroyed 168 homes and caused more than $200 million in insurance losses. More than 3,500 people were forced to evacuate. It was the most destructive wildfire in Colorado’s recorded history.

About 100 people were evacuated when the Reservoir fire broke out near Loveland last year.
