An average of 14 people die and 1,800 people are injured in Utah every year riding motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles.
The Deseret News of Salt Lake City says a report from the Utah Department of Health shows a third of those accidents happen to riders 18 years old or younger.
Two riders have died in the last month, including a 57-year-old man and 10-year-old boy. Both riders were wearing helmets.
Utah State Parks and Recreation’s OHV program manager Chris Haller says the state requires a safety class for riders up to 15 years old. Anyone 16 and older must have a driver’s license.
Haller says about 45,000 people have taken the safety classes.
