A motorist driving the wrong-way on a California desert interstate is dead after slamming head-on into a big-rig.
The trucker wasn’t hurt, but his tractor-trailer rig carrying paper and electronic equipment caught fire.
The California Highway Patrol says the crash was reported just before 4 a.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 in the Coachella Valley community of Rancho Mirage.
Investigators say it’s unclear how long the vehicle was traveling west in the eastbound lanes before the crash near Washington Street.
KNX radio in Los Angeles says the crash closed I-10 in both directions for hours, but travel was moving in both directions by 8 a.m.
