Salmonella Concerns Prompt Pasta Salad Recall

A Corona, Calif., company is recalling more than 7,000 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken pasta salad products because the cilantro in the salad may be contaminated with salmonella.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service says APPA Fine Foods is recalling its spicy Thai style pasta salad produced from October 25 through 29 and sold in California. The agency has received no reports of illnesses.

Salmonella poisoning is one of the most common foodborne illnesses but can be dangerous for those with weak immune systems such as infants and the elderly.

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
