A Texas woman has been awarded $5.67 million for injuries she reieved after she slipped and fell at a McDonald’s restaurant on Maui, Hawaii.
According to court documents in Munguia et al v. Grelyn of Maui, LLC et al, Beverly Munguia was a customer at a McDonald’s franchise when she got up from the table and slipped on something on the floor. By falling on her buttocks, she fractured a vertebra in her lower back. Munguia underwent two surgeries to stabilize the injury, but she remains permanently disabled as she is nearly confined to a wheelchair and is unable to work.
As such, the U.S. District Court jury awarded Munguia $2.67 in special damages for past and future medical expenses, lost wages and retirement benefits. Another $3 million was awarded to her for damages for pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment of life, court documents indicate.
