Police say a veteran Los Angeles Police Department detective has been arrested for workers’ compensation fraud.
Thirty-seven-year-old John Vach Jr. surrendered to police and was booked on seven felony counts of workers’ compensation fraud, perjury and attempted grand theft. He was released after posting $120,000 bond.
The 15-year veteran was with the department’s major crimes division, but after his arrest, he was placed on leave of absence without pay.
City News Service reported that Vach filed a medical claim in 2007, triggering the investigation. Vach is alleged to have signed fraudulent documents under the penalty of perjury and received benefits he wasn’t entitled to.
