Parents Sue Idaho School Over Son’s Weightlifting Mishap

February 12, 2010

Two Ketchum, Idaho, parents are suing the Blaine County School District over injuries suffered by their son in a school weightlifting mishap in 2008.

The lawsuit filed by Gregory and Karen Levin accuses the school district and Wood River High School of negligence because their son was allowed to take part in a dangerous activity without proper supervision.

The parents say their son, a freshman at the time of the accident, suffered significant facial injuries when a bench press bar fell on his face during a weightlifting class. The Idaho Mountain Express reports the lawsuit alleges the only spotter helping their son was a child unable to provide adequate help.

Blaine County School District Business Manager Mike Chatterton says officials are aware of the litigation and have referred it to the district’s insurance provider.
