With strong onshore winds fanning the flames of the Lockheed wildfire in Santa Cruz County, officials have ordered mandatory evacuations for Bonny Doon and Swanton for from 2,200 to 2,400 people.
Two structures have burned since Wednesday and some 250 homes are being threatened. More than 4,100 acres have burned.
Fire crews say their major concerns include the steep terrain with poor access to the fire. Additional resources from across the state are being sent to the area to assist with the fire.
Several road closures are in effect.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
