Idaho Husband Sues Apartment Owner in Wife’s Death

The husband of a Coeur d’Alene apartment manager who was shot and killed by a tenant two years ago has filed a lawsuit against the apartment’s owners.

Otis Leon Fears claims the apartment owners failed to provide proper training or security to avoid a situation that led to the death of his 67-year-old wife, Bette Fears.

The lawsuit filed in Idaho’s 1st District Court names Black Realty Management Inc., of Spokane, Wash., owner of the Park Place Apartments where Fears was manager when she was gunned down by Evelyn Botto in 2007.

Botto then killed herself.

The lawsuit claims the management company knew Botto had emotional or psychological problems, yet failed to give training for managing difficult tenants or provide a secure work environment.

A company spokesman did not immediately return messages.
