Washoe County, Nev. officials have a new firefighting helicopter that they say will allow for a quick local response in the upcoming fire season.
The Huey HH-1H chopper has been retrofitted with a 300-gallon water tank, snorkel pump and other firefighting gear.
It is the county’s first local aerial firefighting resource, and officials say it will allow for a rapid response when fires break out.
Until now, fire crews had to rely solely on state or federal helicopters and planes for aerial support.
