As Hurricane Rita keeps people on their toes in the Gulf Coast area, residents some 80 miles north of Los Angeles were greeted with a pair of earthquakes early Thursday afternoon.
The largest recorded, a 4.9 quake, hit shortly following a 4.0 magnitude quake. A pair of microquakes – registering 3.4 and 3.7, respectively – were later recorded. The two biggest quakes were reportedly felt as far south as Los Angeles.
No injuries or property damages were reported by authorities.
