A 21-year-old Los Angeles man was charged with placing a pipe bomb in the return slot of a South Los Angeles Blockbuster video store that exploded Tuesday night, the District Attorney’s office announced.
Walter Keith Webster, (dob 2-12-84) was charged in case No. BA288356 with one count of using a destructive or explosive device to injure or destroy. He is being held on $1 million bail.
Webster allegedly put a pipe bomb in the video store at the 3300 block of Florence Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday. The device exploded a few minutes later, sending shrapnel into the store where employees were standing. No one was injured. Police arrested Webster near the scene of the explosion.
If convicted, Webster is facing up to seven years in state prison.
