Calif. Gov. Declares State of Emergency in Wake of Shasta County Wildfires

August 27, 2004

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a Proclamation declaring a State of Emergency in Shasta County as a result of damage caused by recent wildfires. The fires burned 23,000 acres and destroyed 106 homes throughout the county.

“Wildfires have a devastating impact on businesses and residents of local communities,” the Governor said. “This Proclamation will allow the state to provide much needed additional assistance to Shasta County as we confront the consequences of these tragic fires.”

The Proclamation will provide state funds to help the county cover costs associated with debris removal and the establishment of Local Assistance Centers.

The Governor also directed the Office of Emergency Services (OES) to work with the federal government to seek assistance for homeowners and businesses through the U.S. Small Business Administration’s low interest loan program.
