Lead-Tainted Toys Seized at Georgia Port

Department of Homeland Security officials say more than 1,300 toys that could have exposed children to lead were seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Port of Savannah.

Federal officials said in a statement that 1,320 children’s backhoe toys that were seized were excessively coated with lead paint.

Officials say the toys were shipped to the port from east Asia in October and the Consumer Product Safety Commission requested that Customs and Border Protection officers examine the shipment.

Authorities say the toys were worth more than $38,150.
