Residents living along Mississippi Highway 30 and on several county roads extending off the highway may soon see a reduction in their homeowners insurance after the area was included in the Lafayette County Fire Department’s Central Fire Grading District.
Fire Coordinator Jerry Johnson told The Oxford Eagle the move reduces the fire rating for those living in the expanded area from a 10 to 7.
The area extends from the existing grading district, which is served through the Central Fire Station, and reaches the Oxmoor subdivision to where Old Highway 7 meets the new Highway 7 and out toward Highway 30 to the east and the College Hill area to the west.
Johnson says residents should contact their insurance agent to find out if they’re in the new district.
