Nearly 600 people were arrested for drunken driving in North Carolina during the state’s Halloween “Booze It & Lose It” campaign.
Officials say close to 400 law enforcement agencies participated in the campaign. In all, 583 drunken drivers were arrested, and Wake County topped the list with 69 arrests.
There were 61 arrests in Mecklenburg County, 33 in Forsyth County, 27 in Guilford County and 21 in Brunswick County.
The campaign ran from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
Authorities also issued 16,854 traffic and criminal citations during the statewide effort.
