The Mississippi Court of Appeals has upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit against a Starkville apartment complex over a beating death which took place six years ago.
Authorities say Bob Batiste killed his roommate Andreas Galanis in their apartment in 21 Apartments in March 2008. Batiste was convicted and given the death penalty.
WCBI-TV in Columbus reports Galanis’ mother and sister filed a wrongful death lawsuit in 2009 against the apartment complex, arguing it did not warn Gilanis about Batiste’s history of violence. But the complex argued background checks showed no such history, and that Batiste and Galanis were best friends before the slaying.
Oktibbeha County Judge Lee Howard dismissed the lawsuit in 2012. The Court of Appeals confirmed that ruling this week.
