Hall County sheriff’s officials say a mechanic was killed when a car he was working on lurched forward and rolled on top of him.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Bailes tells the Gainesville Times 60-year-old Robert Stokes died Tuesday afternoon when a car rolled on top of him at a shop on Dawsonville Highway in Gainesville, Ga.
It’s unclear what caused the car to roll forward and the man’s death is under investigation. Bailes tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the vehicle has been impounded and will be inspected by a mechanic to determine why it came out of gear.
The shop’s owner, Aaron Barnes, says he hired Stokes in 1990 and will remember him as an easygoing and helpful employee.
