Atlanta Bus Driver Charged in Pedestrian’s Death

Atlanta, Ga., police say a MARTA bus driver has been charged in the death of a pedestrian who was hit on Sept. 24.

Sgt. Greg Lyon tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution 54-year-old bus driver Leroy Brown was charged Wednesday with failure to yield to a pedestrian and vehicular homicide.

Investigators say 19-year-old Brenda Travis was killed when she tried crossing an intersection and was hit by a bus.

A police report says Travis was in the crosswalk and was wearing earbud headphones when Brown sounded the bus’ horn. Investigators say Brown was driving at a speed that should have allowed him to slow down to avoid hitting Travis.

Fulton County jail records show Brown is being held on $4,000 bond. It’s unclear if Brown has an attorney.
