State officials say nearly 2,800 people were arrested for drunken driving during North Carolina’s “Booze It & Lose It” Labor Day campaign.
A statement from the N.C. Department of Transportation says the arrests were made between Aug. 15 and Sept. 1.
Of the 2,757 arrests for driving while impaired, Wake County had the most with 316, followed by Guilford County with 192 and Mecklenburg County with 150. Next was Robeson County at 113 and Forsyth County with 112.
In addition to the DWI arrests, law enforcement officers issued 102,209 traffic and criminal citations at 9,642 checking stations and patrols. Also, officers captured 2,874 fugitives and recovered 217 stolen vehicles.
