North Carolina Plans Outer Banks Road Repairs After Arthur

North Carolina road workers are warning that traffic could be slowed this week on a key Outer Banks highway as work begins in earnest to repair damage caused by Hurricane Arthur.

The state Department of Transportation said crews will close one lane on the Bonner Bridge during daylight hours between Monday and Thursday so they can test the span linking Hatteras Island to the rest of the world.

DOT crews also will spend the week removing piles of marsh grass from the roadside that washed up during the storm.

Crews will start rebuilding dunes along North Carolina Highway 12 on Ocracoke Island. That work will take about three weeks, depending on the weather.

Workers are also repairing a section of road that buckled through the uninhabited Pea Island Wildlife Refuge.
