More Than 240 Homes Hit by Storms in Alabama

Emergency managers say at least 240 homes were damaged or destroyed by the tornadoes and strong storms that swept through Alabama.

The latest update from the Alabama Emergency Management Agency says damage is being reported in 31 of Alabama’s 67 counties. Three people died.

The state says about 244 residences were hit, but the number will rise because reports are still coming in. No numbers are in yet for hard-hit Limestone County, for example.

The greatest reported concentration of destruction the Smith Institute community of Etowah County, where between 100 and 150 homes were damaged or destroyed. Another 90 homes were hit in Blount County.

The state says more than 33,000 electrical homes and businesses are without electrical service, down from a peak of more than 97,000.
