Georgia MADD Gets Highway Safety Grant

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is getting a grant from the governor’s office to promote highway safety in Georgia.

The $126,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is for prevention and education programs. It’s also to help fund support services to state law enforcement agencies.

WTOC-TV reports the money will fund lifesaving activities through September 2014.

Georgia had 301 deaths linked to drinking and driving last year, plus about 15,000 injuries.

The state executive director of MADD, Barry Martin, says car crashes are the leading cause of deaths for teenagers.
