Authorities are investigating a deadly wrong-way collision that killed two girls after learning the driver allegedly tweeted she was drunk just hours before the accident.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said the 20-year-old driver Kayla Mendoza was headed the wrong way on the Sawgrass Expressway early Sunday when she slammed into Kaitlyn Nicole Ferrante’s car. Ferrante died Thursday. WFOR-TV Miami reports Ferrante’s family donated her heart. Her passenger, 21-year-old Marisa Catronio, died on scene.
According to Mendoza’s Twitter page, she tweeted ‘2 drunk 2 care’ hours before the accident. In her profile, she describes herself as a ‘pothead princess’ and tweets several references to smoking blunts.
FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky says they are aware of Mendoza’s tweets and are investigating. They said Mendoza was listed in serious condition.
