Phone lines and Internet connections were down for the Kentucky court system for about two days after police say thieves cut the lines looking for recyclable material.
A spokeswoman for the Kentucky Court of Justice, Leigh Anne Hiatt, says the outages that ran from Tuesday through Thursday affected state and local courts in all of Kentucky’s 120 counties.
Hiatt told The Courier-Journal customers statewide who need to make court-related payments, such as traffic tickets or restitution, had to pay with cash or money order, because clerks couldn’t run debit cards.
An official with AT&T was not immediately available for comment.
