Jury Clears Kentucky Doctor in Patient Death

October 1, 2013

An eastern Kentucky jury cleared a doctor in a civil trial over a patient’s death.

The Daily News reported that jurors found Dr. Uyi Idemudia not liable in a lawsuit brought by the family of James K. Gross after he died at Pineville Community Hospital.

The administrator of Gross’ estate, Contessa Robbins, had been seeking up to $8,615 for funeral and burial expenses and $833,502 in damages. Jurors could have also awarded $2 million each to Gross’ two children for their father’s death.

During closing arguments on Friday, plaintiff attorney Albert B. McQueen Jr. claimed Gross died from a drug induced respiratory insufficiency.

McQueen classified the death as “preventable.”
