Mississippi Man Indicted for Workers’ Comp Fraud

A Jasper County, Miss., man has been indicted on charges of workers’ compensation fraud.

Attorney General Jim Hood on Monday said 55-year-old David Myrick Cox, of Louin, surrendered to investigators with his office’s Insurance Integrity Unit at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

The indictment alleges that Cox, while working for the county, was hurt and filed a claim in February 2012 before returning to work the following May. Hood’s office, in a news release, said Cox didn’t notify the state of his return to work and instead continued to illegally receive workers’ compensation benefits through January.

Cox was booked into the county jail. Bail information was not immediately available and it was not known whether he had an attorney.

If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison.
