Sinkhole Repair Could Cost $1.5M at North Carolina School

September 5, 2013

It could cost up to $1.5 million to repair a sinkhole at Catawba Valley Community College.

The Hickory Daily Record reported that the North Carolina school president Garrett Hinshaw told the Catawba County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday the repairs in from of the Tarlton Complex at the school will be expensive.

Hinshaw said the sinkhole was caused by a pipe destroyed in the flooding in July. The hole is now 30 feet deep and 50 feet in diameter.

The school says it will have to replace a 72-inch diameter pipe that is 760 feet long.

Hinshaw says it will take two or three months to replace the pipe.
