Mississippi Lawsuit Claims Hattiesburg Officers Broke Man’s Spine

A Hattiesburg, Miss., man claims that police called because of an alleged domestic disturbance beat him and jumped on his back, breaking his spine and paralyzing him.

Jordan Chase Borgognoni filed the lawsuit seeking unspecified damages in Forrest County Circuit Court, The Hattiesburg American reported.

City Attorney Charles Lawrence said he had not seen the complaint because it had not been served on the city.

Borgognoni’s attorneys, Dennis Sweet and Terris Harris, did not answer the newspapers requests for comment.

According to the lawsuit, the police report says Borgognoni cursed at the officers.

“This protected First Amendment language agitated the officers and caused them to become angry with the Plaintiff,” the complaint states.

It alleges that they arrested him on a charge of domestic violence simple assault, then threw him to the ground, kicked him and jumped on his back.

“At that time, Plaintiff yelped in pain and stated he could not feel his legs,” the complaint said.

It alleges that he asked for medical help but officers took him to the county jail, where an ambulance was called.
