Kentucky Pain Clinic Owner Convicted on 21 Charges

A jury has convicted the owner of two Kentucky pain clinics on 21 federal charges including drug trafficking, money laundering and conspiracy.

The Lexington Herald-Leader cited a statement from U.S. Attorney Kerry B. Harvey in reporting that the jury returned its verdict against 45-year-old Ernest William Singleton on Thursday. He owned clinics in Georgetown and Dry Ridge, though he closed both last year.

Prosecutors described the clinics as “pill mills,” where doctors prescribe pain medicine without giving patients an adequate physical exam.

Harvey says Singleton faces up to 20 years in prison and will be sentenced in October.
