May 24, 2013

Program officials have scheduled a news conference on Thursday at the National Guard Armory in Elizabeth City.

seatbeltTo increase awareness and to mark the anniversary, the program wants North Carolinians to take a self-portrait while buckled up and parked and share it on Twitter and Instagram or post it directly to the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Facebook page.

Authorities say that since the Governor’s Highway Safety Program launched the campaign, the number of reported crashes, fatalities and injuries involving unbelted passengers has dropped dramatically. But they say there’s been a decline in seatbelt usage in recent years.
