South Carolina School Bus Driver Fired After DUI Charge

October 18, 2012

A South Carolina school bus driver has been fired after a drunken driving charge.

Richland School District 1 officials said Tuesday that 61-year-old Margaret Means was no longer a district employee.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says Means was ending her morning route Friday when she ran off the road and went into a ditch.

District officials say no children were on the bus at the time.

Means was not hurt and was charged with driving under the influence and child endangerment.

Authorities say her blood-alcohol level was 0.17, twice the legal limit in South Carolina. Means told troopers she drank wine the night before but had not had any that morning.

It wasn’t known if she has an attorney.
