Georgia County Considers Mobile Storm Alert System

Emergency managers in a northeast Georgia county hope to be able to send storm alerts to residents to their phones or mobile devices.

The Hall County Emergency Management Agency is seeking funding for the new emergency notification system.

The Times of Gainesville reports that the county’s proposed budget includes $25,000 earmarked for the program.

Hall County Commission Chairman Tom Oliver says the system could save lives.

Authorities said some Georgia counties such as Forsyth County northeast of Atlanta have systems that allow residents to sign up to receive weather alerts by text, phone call or email.
