The Wood County Board of Education in West Virginia is being sued by a woman who claims an assistant football coach encouraged a fight between her son and another player.
The Parkersburg News and Sentinel says Lisa Watson filed the lawsuit earlier this month on behalf of her son, Adam Cross, a Parkersburg South High School football player.
Parkersburg South assistant football coach Dwain Sponseller also is a defendant.
The lawsuit claims Sponseller encouraged Cross and another player to fight after they argued during football practice in October 2010. According to the lawsuit, Cross was injured in the fight but no details were given.
Wood County Schools Superintendent Pat Law says he’s aware of the lawsuit but he can’t comment.
Law says Sponseller remains an employee of Wood County Schools.
