Up to 100 Homes Damaged by Northwest Georgia Storm

Authorities say dozens of homes were damaged by a storm that rolled through northwest Georgia, toppling trees and knocking out power to thousands of customers.

Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Director Scotty Hancock tells WSB Radio that an estimated 50 to 100 homes were damaged by the storm that hit late Wednesday night. He said the path of destruction is between a mile and a half and two miles long.

A National Weather Service team was expected to assess the scene Thursday and try to determine whether the damage was caused by a tornado.

The Rome News-Tribune reports that power lines were down along Kingston Highway and on Turner Chapel Road. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
